Fire door installation
Supply and fit of certified fire door assemblies for commercial and residential premises across Scotland's Central Belt.
A fire door is certified as a complete assembly. The leaf, frame, seals, hinges and ironmongery were tested together, and the performance only holds if what goes into the opening matches what was tested.
That is why installation matters more here than on an ordinary door. A correctly specified door fitted with the wrong hinges, packed badly, or hung in a frame that was never part of the tested set will not perform the way the certificate says.

Building standards in Scotland
New build, conversion and alteration work in Scotland is governed by the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and the technical handbooks, and generally requires a building warrant from the local authority verifier. That is a different regime from the ongoing duty holder obligations that apply once a building is in use.
Scottish standards also describe fire door performance differently. Where the trade says FD30 or FD60, the technical handbooks refer to a short or medium fire resistance duration, expressed under the European classification as E 30 Sa or E 60 Sa. They describe the same performance.
If your project is going through warrant, the door specification needs to match what was approved, not simply what is available.
Common installation faults
- ✕Gaps outside tolerance because the frame was not packed and fixed correctly
- ✕Hinges or ironmongery substituted for components outside the certified set
- ✕Vision panels or apertures cut on site after the door left the factory
- ✕Seals omitted, or fitted to the leaf when the tested assembly had them in the frame
